Monies for Mental Health
Funds will soon be released that help schools and communities cope with the challenges associated with the opoid crisis. In October 2018, Congress passed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act. This legislation authorizes at least $195 million for evidence-based services and evaluations.
Specifically for states and school districts, $50 million is to help implement schoolwide behavioral interventions and support for students experiencing serious emotional trauma. We are watching to see if this money will be distributed equitabily among urban, rural, tribal, and suburban communities. We also will be monitoring $10 million that may be awarded competitively to help children and youth with substance abuse.
