Local, Local, Local - Lets Fund Local
We know the shift to state and local funding is happening with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), but did you know national philanthropists are also funding more locally designed efforts to improve schools? Many K-12 funders are looking for ways to empower school districts believing that locally driven solutions have the best chance of succeeding.
As funding experts, we are witnessing this trend that appears to be reversing the top-down approach in funding. Instead we are seeing a return to backing locally designed efforts to improve schools. In 1993, the Annenberg Challenge took a more localized approach to funding. Now a new wave of funders such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan are pivoting strategies and looking for creating ways to empower local K-12 innovators.
