Elevating School Climate Indicators and Funding
ESSA raises the importance of school climate on student learning and overall student success. States are uncovering ways to measure these nonacademic indicators into their accountability systems.
School safety, social emotional learning, positive discipline, school connectedness, positive behavior interventions and supports, cultural competence, and home school collaboration are some of the key components of a safe and supportive school climate. This broader vision of school success now requires states to go beyond traditional measures for determining the indicators and conditions for learning and teaching.
We are watching the increases in government and public private investment for school climate and discipline. This trend in social emotional learning and school climate will continue to rise. This is evident in funding both present and forecasted.
